When Your Butterflies Arrive
What to do when your butterflies arrive
Your butterflies will arrive in glassine envelopes packed in a foam lined box with an ice pack. This mimics the natural environment of a cool spring or fall night. Your butterflies will be asleep for the duration of their journey until you wake them for your release.
Please remove the ice pack, which is found under the cardboard at the bottom of the box, then refreeze it. You will need to find a substitute to relpace the freezer pack while it refreezes. A package of frozen vegetables or fruit will make a good substitute for the ice pack until it refreezes.
If your butterflies are not pre-packed in an Accordion Release Box: Hold each envelope up to the light and watch their legs. If their legs are not moving, they may still be sleeping. Gently open the envelope and slide your finger into the envelope to touch the butterfly. If you have any that are still not moving after you've checked all of them, please set it aside and contact us. Some will take longer than others to warm up and become active.
If your butterflies are packed in an Accordion Release Box, Do Not Open The Box! You should look through the side to see if legs are moving or hold the box up to your ear and listen for movement. We always include an extra butterfly per dozen ordered just in case one does not survive.
Replace the ice pack as directed and then replace the styrofoam top. Store the box in a cool dark area. DO NOT REFRIGERATE THE BUTTERFLIES! Check the ice pack every morning and night. If it has melted, refreeze the ice pack and replace it with the substitue ice pack.
Do Not use insect spray near your butterflies! It will kill them. Never store the butterflies in an area that has been recently treated with insect spray or bug repellent.
If your package was damaged in any way or you find a problem with your shipment upon arrival, please notify us immediately. You must notify us the day the shipment arrives to recieve any type of refund. Do not destroy anything that did not arrive intact. Before we offer a refund or reshipment, we may require photos or for the package or contents to be returned.
